Nathaniel “Nate” Moore is a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Dillard High School in 1957.
Nate received a Bachelor of Science degree from Elizabeth City State Teachers College (now Elizabeth City State University) in 1022 and his master’s degree from the University of Virginia in 1970. Nate did further studies at Temple University (PA), Lynchburg College (VA), University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Danville Community College (VA), and Piedmont Community College (VA).
During his matriculation at ECSU, Nate served as president if the Student Government Association. As a student athlete, he lettered in baseball. In 1961, he was inducted into the Beta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He currently serves as president of the Lynchburg (VA) Chapter. After his graduation in 1962, Nate enjoyed a successful career as a public-school teacher, providing service to elementary school students in Portsmouth, VA; Philadelphia, PA; Lynchburg, VA; Caswell, NC; Pittsylvania, VA; and Rockingham, NC.
With great appreciation for the opportunities provided to him as an ECSU graduate, Nate joined the ECSU National Alumni Association in 1967. As a life member, he has remained steadfast in his support of ECSU through his service as a former NAA vice president and organizer of the Lynchburg Alumni Chapter (no longer in existence). He is the co-founder of the Viking Varsity Club and served as the first president and has remained a strong supporter of ECSU’s athletic programs and can be counted on to offer financial assistance wherever it is needed. He is omnipresent as all things ECSU.
In addition to his involvement with ECSU, his reach can be felt far beyond the campus. Nate was appointed by the former Governor of North Carolina, Terry Sanford, to serve on the Committee for a Better North Carolina. He is a United Way Volunteer, chairperson for membership of the Lynchburg (VA) Chapter of the NAACP, and photographer for Sister on the Move and Pride of Locust Hill #624 Order of Eastern Star in Caswell County, NC. For his exemplary services, he has been recognized by the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) and by his ECSU classmates and friends at the 60s Decade Reunion in 2002 for his support of his alma mater.
Nate is a certified official in both VHSL (Virginia High School League) for Basketball and Softball and the ASA (Softball for Colleges and Amateurs). He was the first member of Beta Zeta Chapter to become a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. In 2021-2022, Nate was voted third runner-up for Mr. Alumni of the ECSU National Alumni Association.
He married his college sweetheart and is a proud father of three children and six grandchildren.
