Dewitt defines the meaning of leadership and strength. Devitt dominated the game of football in his hometown at powerhouse Wallace-Rose Hill High School in Wallace, North Carolina. At Wallace-Rose Hill, Dewitt was an all-conference basketball player, all-conference in shot put in track and field, and football MVP middle linebacker his junior and senior year.

In 2001, Dewitt took his talents to Elizabeth City State University on a full athletic scholarship. He became a starter as a freshman at ECSU and became an instant asset to the team. Even though all his stats and contributions were not recorded during his time on the football team, his teammates who played alongside Dewitt witnessed his explosiveness first-hand. If you have an opportunity to speak with anyone from the 2001 freshman class, they too can verify that Dewitt Newkirk was the new sheriff in town. He lined up beside seniors like Jonkivia Tyson and Rashawn Spencer and instantly won their respect.

Dewitt did more than just led the Viking Ship. Over the past two decades, Dewitt’s growth and development as a businessman and as an individual is astonishing. As the founder owner of Unshakable Builders, in Greenville, North Carolina, Dewitt has become one of the largest contractors in North Carolina responsible for erecting hundreds of single-family homes, apartment communities, commercial properties and custom dream homes. Fun facts DeWitt recently completed the largest custom house in Pitt County history and was featured February 2024 in USA TODAY which depicts DeWitt Newkirk’s Generational Talent and his journey to forming Unshakable Builders. Dewitt possesses a strong sense of discipline and dedication, always going the extra mile for his family, his church and his community. His commitment to all that he engages in is truly commendable.

Dewitt is everything that Viking Pride should represent. He is pillar in his community and to his church, Koinonia Christian Center located in Greenville, North Carolina. Dewitt also has an AAU basketball team, Team Unshakable. Dewitt is the rock for his wife Courtney Newkirk and eight children, Destiney, Samuel, Caden, Stephan, Madison, Joseph, Ariah, and Baby Newkirk and to many nephews, nieces, additionally mentoring many young men at the high school and college level in personal, academic, and sport skill sets. Hall of Famers never stop being great, and Dewitt Newkirk is living proof.

On the Field Excellence: Dewitt consistently showcased exceptional skills, agility, and determination throughout his football career. His remarkable ability to tackle and neutralize running backs made him a formidable presence on the field, instilling fear in many opponents. Over the course of his seasons, Dewitt not only broke multiple records in the ECSU record book with his distinctive defensive style but also produced numerous unforgettable plays that captivated both fans and teammates. His accolades include three selections to the All-CIAA Second Team, three All-Conference honors, serving as Team Captain for ECSU in 2004, and leading his team with a total of 102 tackles, including 20 for a total loss of 50 yards. In 2004, Dewitt was awarded ECSU Football MVP. Additionally, he was the only Division II player chosen to start in the HBCU All-Star Game in 2005 in New Orleans and received an invitation to the Washington Redskins Rookie Camp 2005.
