Hall of Fame
Curtis was born and raised in Greenville, NC, where he attended J.H Rose High School. He lettered and starred in Football, Basketball and Baseball. He was selected as Best Defensive back in Big East Conference and Pitt County.
After graduation from High School, he attended Elizabeth City State University. While at Elizabeth City he was selected twice as CIAA preseason first team. Twice he had three picks in separate games and lead the conference and nation in interceptions during the1988 and 1989 seasons. In 1989, he was voted the Port City Classic Most Valuable Player that was once held in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Perkins had a total of 14 picks during his career which is tied for an all-time school record. He was awarded the Coca Cola Golden helmet award four times. “Perk” made the CIAA weekly honor roll three times for player of the week. Curtis, a stealth performer in the defensive back position made off with several interceptions’ honors during his career at Elizabeth City State. His Performance at ECSU was outstanding against some of the best wide receivers in the country.
After Graduating from Elizabeth City State University with B.S Degree in Business and Troy University in Alabama with M.S. Degree in Human Resource Management, he was selected by Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League. The legendary coach Larry Kuharich coached him. He played in four games and had 2 interceptions before he was injured and had to retire.
After retirement from football, he returned to the state of Georgia and has been coaching and teaching for 25 years at Redan, Washington, and Tucker High Schools. Curtis’s passion has always been in assisting and helping students achieve their goals.
He has been married to alumnae Alicia Spruell Perkins for 27 years and they have one daughter Lauryn. He is currently an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Beta Lambda Lambda chapter in Gwinnett County.
