ELIZABETH CITY, NC-The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings took just under an hour to dispose of Virginia Union University in three sets 25-5, 25-15, 25-19 Monday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
With the victory the Lady Vikings capture their fourth consecutive division championship. ECSU will close out the season when they host both Lincoln (Pa.) University and Saint Paul's College in a Northern Division tri-match on Wednesday beginning at 2:00pm.
As for Monday's match, ECSU made quick work of the Lady Panthers (8-17, CIAA 7-8) sweeping the three sets in 52 minutes. The Lady Vikings were led by the freshman tandem of Morgan Cary and Whitney Green who both tallied double digits in kills for the match. Cary had her best outing of the season with a match high 13 kills versus only one hitting error. Green continued on her CIAA Rookie of the Year campaign with 10 kills.
As a team ECSU more than doubled the Lady Panthers in kills 36-17.
The Lady Vikings (18-5, CIAA 16-0) will play two matches on Wednesday as a part of a tri-match that will wrap up their regular season. ECSU will take on Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 2:00pm and will then take a break as Saint Paul's College and Lincoln square off at 4:00pm.
