Men's Basketball Starts Conference Road Trip at Fayetteville State

Seeks to Win 5th Straight

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University Men's Basketball team will continue its seven-game road trip and will start a six-game conference road swing at Fayetteville State University in a 12:00 p.m. tilt at Capel Arena.

LAST TIME OUT
The Vikings traveled six hours up to Bluefield, West Virginia to face off against Bluefield State College on December 30th and came away with a 75-71 win. The Vikings are currently on a four game winning streak and sit atop of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings with a 4-0 conference mark. During the current four game win streak ECSU defeated Fayetteville State 62-57 back on December 17th inside the R.L. Vaughan Center. The Vikings were led by Justin Faison who poured in 14 points on a perfect 4-for-4 effort from behind the arc.

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
While Fayetteville State left the R.L. Vaughan Center and currently sit with a 1-8 record, they most recently defeated Division I opponent UNC Asheville in an exhibition game on December 29th by a score of 80-63. The Broncos were led by UNC Wilmington transfer Jaquel Richmond who scored 20 points off of a 6-of-7 shooting night and a 7-for-8 night shooting from the free throw line. Richmond became eligible for the Broncos following the semester break so he did not see action in the first meeting between the Vikings and Fayetteville State.

Before the contest at UNC Asheville, the Broncos had been struggling from the offensive end of the floor averaging 65 points per contest; while giving up just over 79 points per game.

The contest features two of the top shot blockers in the country as Will Brown for Fayetteville State currently sits 4th in the country in blocks with 3.2 per game and Tyjhai Byers sits in 5th with 3.0 per contest.
