Coach Shawn Walker leads the Vikings into road contest at Barton
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University men's basketball team continues on its four game road trip with a stop in Wilson, N.C. to face off against Barton College on Tuesday evening. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. inside of Wilson Gymnasium on the campus of Barton.

ECSU (2-2) comes into the contest off of a tough outing at Catawba on Saturday evening as the Vikings dropped the contest, 86-65. The Vikings were led by sophomore guard Zachheus Hobbs who paced the offensive effort with a game high 17-point effort on 6-for-11 shooting, including 4-of-4 from the free throw line and a four to zero assist to turnover ratio. Joseph Allen also scored in double figures for the Vikings with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and a perfect 100 percent shooting from the free throw line.

Barton comes into the contest undefeated (5-0) and ranked 20th in the country after they won the University of Mount Olive Pickle Classic this past weekend. The Bulldogs defeated UNC Pembroke and Clayton State en route to the tournament title. Barton has built an impressive resume so far in the 2018-19 campaign as the Bulldogs have averaged 89 points per game in their five contests this season and are winning by an average of 19.4 points per contest. Barton has a balanced scoring attack on the season as five players have averaged in double figures and the team is averaging shooting 50.3 percent from the field.

This contest will be a battle of which is stronger, offense or defense, as ECSU has had success on the defensive end, limiting opposing teams to 74 points per contest and opponents are averaging just 42.1 percent from the field. The Vikings are being led offensively by a trio of double figure scorers including Zaccheus Hobbs with 17.8 points per game on 58 percent shooting and five assists per game. Shyheid Petteway and John Maynor are both averaging over 11 points per game and nearly 50 percent shooting from the field between the two of them.
