ECSU Men’s Basketball Falls on Road at Catawba

Zach Hobbs leads Viking offensive attack with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting

Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.  – The Elizabeth City State University men's basketball team dropped a tough road contest at Catawba College on Saturday evening by a score of 86-65.
 
Catawba (3-1) started the contest on a 10-2 run in the first four minutes of play and never looked back as they would lead the contest wire-to-wire. The Indians would eventually expand their lead to as much as 16 in the first half before ECSU would chip away to be down 14 at half, 45-31.
 
The Vikings (2-2) came out in the second half and went on a 11-5 run in the first five minutes to cut the deficit to eight before Catawba would again extend the lead to as much as 20 midway through the final half. Catawba and ECSU would go back and forth until the end of the contest with the final margin being 21 in favor of the Indians.
 
For ECSU the offense was led by sophomore guard Zaccheus Hobbs who paced the Vikings with a game high 17-point effort on 6-for-11 shooting, including 4-of-4 from the free throw line and a four to zero assist to turnover ratio. Joseph Allen also scored in double figures for the Vikings with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and a perfect 100 percent shooting from the free throw line.
 
Catawba was led by a balance scoring attack as five players would register in double figures with three players all tying for team leader in that category with 13 apiece. Catawba also attempted 15 more three point attempts than ECSU did in the contest, hitting on seven additional attempts than did the Vikings.
 
ECSU faces a quick turnaround as they will travel to Barton College on Tuesday evening for a 7:00 p.m. tip, for what will be the second game in a four game road trip.
