BOWIE, MD- Bowie State University held off a late charge from Elizabeth City State for a 67-57 win Saturday afternoon at A.C. Jordan Arena.
The Bulldogs' offense rolled from the opening tip while ECSU struggled to find rhythm on their end of the floor. Aside from a three pointer by Clayton Cowell at the 15:59 mark which made the score 5-3 in favor of BSU, the Vikings went scoreless for nearly ten minutes. They next found the basket on a three by Miykael Faulcon with 5:25 left in the half however in the meantime Bowie State continued to pour it on. Prior to Faulcon's three, the Bulldogs built a 25 point lead and took a 34-15 advantage into the locker room.
Yet it was a tale of two halves as Elizabeth City State opened the final 20 minutes with an 18-2 run that trimmed Bowie State's lead down to 38-35 by the 12:47 mark. The Vikings pulled within one (42-41) following a Jermaine Brown layup with 11:08 left in the game.
Fortunately for Bowie State, that's as close as ECSU would get before the Bulldogs went on a 15-3 run to push the lead back up to double digits at 57-44 with 4:12 remaining in the game.
Cowell led the Vikings in the low scoring affair with a team high 11 points.
Andre Jackson led the way with 15 points for Bowie State who finishes the regular season at 16-12 overall.
