ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Virginia Union University Panthers played Senior Night spoiler as they defeated Elizabeth City State University 83-70 in the final home game of the of the season at the Vaughan Center.
Playing in front of the Vaughan Center fans for the final time, senior Miykael Faulcon did not disappoint as he tallied a career high 31 points including a personal best 9 three pointers.
Ray Anderson paced the Panthers with a team high 28 points. Virginia Union held a 42-30 at the intermission and finished the game shooting a blistering 63% from the floor. The Vikings fought back to within a point twice in the second half, both courtesy of layups by DeCarlos Anderson. The latter came with a steal and score by Anderson with 5:51 left in the game for a 68-67 VUU advantage.
The Panthers closed the game on 15-3 run to secure the win. Anderson scored 15 points in his final home game and James Theus finished with 16 points.
Kory Cooley chipped in with 17 for Virginia Union who improves to a game over .500 at 14-13 overall and 7-8 in the CIAA.
ECSU (9-13, CIAA 6-9) will close out the regular season on Saturday against Bowie State University. Tipoff is scheduled for 4pm.
