ELIZABETH CITY, NC (February 13, 2016) After staying even with Virginia State in the first half, Elizabeth City State lost its shooting touch, dropping a 74-59 decision to the Trojans, Saturday afternoon at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
The Vikings matched VSU's shooting percentage (45% from the field) and after being down by as many as eight points, rallied in the final 2:29 of the period to tie the score at 36-36 at halftime.
VSU came storming out the locker room with a 14-2 run to begin the second half. Coupled with ECSU's frigid field goal shooting (8 of 27), the Trojans took control and cruised to victory.
ECSU's DeCarlos Anderson led all scorers with 16 points. He was joined by Miykael Faulcon with 14 points and Stephen Asihene who came off the bench to contribute 10 points.
VSU's top scorer was Cyonte Melvin with 14 points.
The victory keeps Virginia State (18-5, CIAA: 12-2, Division: 6-2) on top of the Northern Division standings.
ECSU (9-12, CIAA: 6-8, Division: 2-6) falls to sixth place in the division.
The final home game of the season will be against Virginia Union on Wednesday, February 17 at the Vaughan Center. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
