NORFOLK, Va. -- The Elizabeth State University men basketball team fell to Norfolk State University, 91-55 Tuesday evening at Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall.

With the loss, ECSU falls to 0-3 on the season; while the Spartans improve to 2-1.

Elizabeth City State went into the half down 20 points (47-27) after NSU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead to start the game. Freshman guard John Maynor connected on the Vikings' first two points in the game three minutes into the first half. Senior guard Clayton Cowell recorded the assist on the basket.

Senior forward Jordan Jones spearheaded ECSU with nine points off 3-of-4 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from the candy stripe. In the half as a team, the Vikings shot 34.4 percent from the field, 20 percent from downtown, and 75 percent from the line.

ECSU came out of the half struggling to knock down a shot and find their poise. NSU opened the second half on a 13-3 run, with 12:56 remaining in the contest.

Senior forward Kyree Marshall paced the Vikings with 15 points off 6-of-11 shooting (54.5%), 3-of-6 from the stripe (50%); while grabbing a team-high eight boards (five offensive, three defensive). Jones also finished in double-figures with ten points; while senior forward Matthew McIntosh added eight. Maynor recorded seven points and five boards, and sophomore guards Keenan Tabron and Malik Edwards both tallied six points each, respectively.

The Spartans were led by Jonathan Wade with a season-high 34 points; while defensively, Bryan Gellineau collected nine boards on the night.

For the game, ECSU shot 58.1 percent from the line, 29.3 percent from the field, and 15.8 percent from behind the arc.

Elizabeth City State travels to Richmond, Va. to compete in the Georgetown Classic against Washington Adventist University Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. hosted by Virginia Union University.
