ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Bowie State University rode a hot shooting second half to a 72-65 win over Elizabeth City State University Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.
In the second half the Bulldogs' offense was practically flawless, as they shot a blazing 72% from the floor. Additionally, Bowie State's reserves outscored the Vikings 29-15 with two bench players netting double figures; Julian Livingston scored 14 points and Ahmaad Wilson finished with 11.
Andre Jackson was the game's high man with 20 points while Justin Beck finished with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Vikings held the Bulldogs to just two field goals in the first eleven minutes of the contest and took a double digit lead (16-6) after a layup by Matthew McIntosh. BSU chipped away until a go ahead three pointer from Wilson gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game 25-24 with 1:05 to go before the half.
Two free throws by Clayton Cowell temporarily gave the lead back to ECSU until two from the charity stripe by Michael Briscoe put the Bulldogs back in front 27-26 at the intermission.
With 15:25 left in the game, a three-pointer by Cowell evened the game at 34 however the Bulldogs responded with 10 unanswered for their first double digit lead of the contest.
ECSU got as close as four points, first on a Miykael Faulcon three-pointer at the 6:46 mark and later after two free throws by DeCarlos Anderson with 5:32 remaining.
Faulcon scored all of his 13 points in the second half while Anderson topped ECSU in scoring with 15 points.
Bowie State improves to 12-9 overall and 5-5 in the CIAA and with the win picks up their first Division win of the season.
ECSU (7-10, CIAA 4-6) will return to action next Saturday against Chowan University in Murfreesboro.
