Dec. 9, 2015 Final Stats
WILSON, NC- Barton College had four starters score in double figures as the Bulldogs rolled to a 78-62 win over Elizabeth City State University Wednesday night at Wilson Gymnasium.
DeCarlos Anderson was the only Viking to net double figures for ECSU with a game high 22 points.
As a team ECSU shot a season low 34% from the floor including just 3 of 23 from beyond the three point arc. Despite the cold shooting, the Vikings turned a slow start into a 19-11 lead at the 10:40 mark of the first half. The Bulldogs chipped away at their deficit to tie the game, before a go ahead three ball by Tyler Thayer put his team back in front 29-26 with 4:08 to go in the first half.
Barton closed the half on a 10-3 run to take a 39-29 advantage at the intermission and would maintain the lead the remainder of the game.
James Theus' jumper with 18:46 remaining in regulation trimmed the Barton lead to nine before Thayer countered with another three-pointer to push the spread back to double digits, 45-33. The Bulldogs' largest lead, 69-49, came with 4:57 to go in the contest. For their turn, the Bulldogs shot at near a 50% clip for the game, the shooting percentage being the only glaring differential between the two teams on Wednesday night.
ECSU (2-4) will open up CIAA play with a cross divisional matchup against Shaw University on Tuesday, December 15th. Game time is scheduled for 8pm at Spaulding Gymnasium in Raleigh, NC.
