ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Fayetteville State University had four starters score in double digits as the Broncos bested Elizabeth City State University 82-72 Monday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
Miykael Faulcon drained a career best 8 three pointers in route to a game high 30 points.
The Vikings, who trailed the entire game, cut the Broncos' lead to two on three occasions the final 7:30 of the game. Clayton Cowell hit a layup with 6:22 left and the score sat at 63-61 in favor of Fayetteville State. Joshua Dawson then drained his only three of the night before Michael Tyson and Isaiah Vinson each went 2 of 2 from the free throw line to put the Broncos up 70-61. After the teams traded three-pointers, the Broncos put together a quick 6-2 spurt to take their largest lead of the night, a thirteen point spread, 79-66, with 58 seconds left.
The Vikings were saddled with foul trouble most of the night and the Broncos capitalized going 25 of 33 from the charity stripe. FSU held a commanding 36-20 edge in points in the paint behind a 19 point outing from forward Michael Tyson. Tyson was one of four Bronco starters to net double figures including Dawson who finished with a double-double of 13 points and 13 assists.
Fayetteville State displayed some hot shooting from the opening tip, hitting 5 of their first 6 shots to race out to a 14-4 lead with 14:34 to go in the first half. The Vikings got back into the game from behind the three point line, including four threes from Faulcon who finished with 18 first half points. His final three-pointer of first half pulled the Vikings within four until Dawson countered with a layup at the buzzer for a 39-33 halftime lead.
ECSU (2-3) will hit the road to on December 9th as the travel to Wilson, NC to take on Barton College as part of a non-conference double header. The Lady Vikings will tip off at 5:30pm followed by the Vikings at 7:30pm.
