VIKINGS' WIN STREAK CONTINUES WITH 93-89 TRIUMPH OVER BARTON

ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Elizabeth City State University rallied from a 13 point halftime deficit to win their sixth straight, defeating Barton College 93-89 Tuesday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

The Vikings went 10-10 from the free throw line in the fine 49 seconds to seal the game. Miykael Faulcon had 26 points to lead all scorers while Elon Edwards and Darrell Ware chipped in with 19 apiece. Ward finished the night with 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.

ECSU posted their best second half performance of the season, exploding for 64 points in over the final 20 minutes of play. They were an astounding 61 % from the floor in the second half, including an incredulous 8-10 from behind the three point arc. It was the Vikings' three-point prowess that proved to be the difference in their rally past Barton since the Bulldogs put up 47 points on 55% from the field in the second stanza.

The turnaround was a big one for ECSU and the total opposite of the game's first 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs pounded ECSU on the glass in the first half, converting 16 offensive rebounds into 10 second chance points. Overall they bested the Vikings 33-20 in rebounding and got 12 points from 8 first half ECSU turnovers.

A three by Kendall Patterson gave Barton (4-5) their largest lead of the game 47-31 with 18:17 left in the game.

The Vikings slowly chipped away at their deficit and managed to put within a point, 64-63 with 7:18 left. The teams exchanged baskets, a Darrell Ward layup followed by a jumper by Danny Shand, before a bucket by James Theus tied the game for the fourth and final time (68-68).

ECSU had a quick 6-1 burst, capped by a Glenn Patterson three pointer with 3:58 left take a six point lead. Their largest lead of the night (80-72) came after DeCarlos Anderson drained a three with 2:42 to go.

Shand led four Bulldog double figure scorers with 23 points.

ECSU (6-5) will close out the first half of the 2014-2015 season next Thursday when they welcome Claflin University to the RL Vaughan Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
