ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Elizabeth City State University placed four in double figures as the Vikings downed The Apprentice School 90-77 Sunday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.
Darrell Ward led the way with a team high 19 points, Glenn Patterson scored 17 while Miykael Faulcon and Elon Edwards chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively. The loss drops the Builders to 3-4 on the year while ECSU, who started the season 0-5, wins their fourth straight.
The first 43 seconds after the opening tip represented the only tie of the game (0-0) as the teams both missed their first attempts from the field. Jermaine Brown's offensive rebound and put-back at the 19:17 mark kicked off a 17-1 Viking run and ECSU never looked back from there.
The Builders' first made field goal came nearly 6 minutes into the first half on a jumper by DeAndre Demiel. ECSU shot a solid 55% from the field for the game and led 48-36 at the intermission.
Johnnie Ferebee led all scorers with 30 points Jamal Curry posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
With the exception of a dunk by Jay Melendez that pulled the Builders within 9 points (67-58) with 8:55 to go, the Vikings led the entire second half by double digits.
