ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Miykael Faulcon scored a season high 26 points as the Elizabeth City State Vikings toppled Livingstone College in game two of the 2014 Thanksgiving Basketball Classic Friday afternoon.
Despite trailing 49-34 at halftime the Blue Bears stormed back with a 10-0 run to trim the ECSU lead to five, 65-60, with 13:23 left in the game. The Vikings responded with an 8-3 run and then added a 9-2 spurt for an 82-63 advantage, their largest lead of the game.
The loss is the first setback of Livingstone's season as the Blue Bears slip to 2-1 overall.
Faulcon drained five three pointers over the first 20 minutes in route to 17 first half points. ECSU was 9-11 (81%) from behind the arc in the first half and seized a sixteen point lead after his fifth three swished through the net with 1:13 left before the intermission.
The Vikings led the entire contest and took their first double digit advantage of the game, 25-15, after Faulcon nailed back-to-back shots from downtown at the 10:21 mark. ECSU was hot from the floor in the first half at 63% shooting.
Three other Vikings scored in double figures; Darrell Ward notched 16 while Glenn Patterson and Brachon Griffin chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Ty Newman paced the Blue Bear attack with a team high 22 points off the bench.
ECSU (2-5) will return to action in the nightcap of the Thanksgiving Basketball Classic tomorrow against Virginia University of Lynchburg at 8pm. Saturday's action will begin at 1pm with Fayetteville State/Newport News Apprentice followed by Virginia State/West Virginia State at 3pm and Washington Adventist/Livingstone at 6pm.
