ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Elon Edwards scored 15 of his game high 20 points in the second half as the Elizabeth City State University Vikings held on for a 76-71 win over Christopher Newport University in exhibition action Saturday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

Edwards scored seven straight in the final minute and a half to put his team back in front after ECSU, who lead by as many as 18 in the game, fell behind 69-65 with 2:17 to go.

Glenn Patterson sank two free throws at the 1:59 mark to pull the Vikings within two points 69-67. After a turnover by Rayshard Brown on CNU's next possession, Edwards knotted the game with a jumper then followed with a three pointer to give ECSU a 72-69 lead with 59 seconds remaining. Another Captain turnover, this time by Tim Daley, led to an Edwards' layup on an assist by Miykael Faulcon and DeCarlos Anderson sealed the win with two free throws with 12 seconds left.

With the exception of a put-back by Daley with 4 ticks left, CNU did not score from the field in the final three minutes of play and went 0-4 from the free throw line in the game's final minute.

The Vikings held a 42-25 lead at the intermission but were outscored by CNU 46-34 in the second half. Marcus Carter (15 Points) and Tim Daley led the second half charge for Christopher Newport with both netting 13 points over the final 20 minutes. Daley and Carter combined for 18-30 shooting from the free throw line in the second half with Daley finishing with a team high 18 points.

As a team CNU was 31-53 shooting from the charity stripe and corralled 17 offensive boards into 22 second chance points.

Faulcon was ECSU's other double figure scorer with 18 points.
