Final Stats

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- A.J. Johnson drained a three-pointer with 4 seconds remaining to give Elizabeth City State University a thrilling 69-68 win over Fayetteville State University Monday night at Capel Arena.

The Vikings led 37-33 at the break but the Broncos (9-4, CIAA 2-1) ran off 13 unanswered points to begin the second half.

ECSU's 3-point shooting got them back into the game, led by Miykael Faulcon who nailed 3 of his 4 made long balls in the second half. He finished the game with 13 of his game high 18 points coming in the final twenty minutes of play.

The win gave ECSU their first conference victory of the season and capped a ferocious comeback as the Vikings found themselves facing a double digit deficit, 48-37 with 14:49 left in the game. ECSU fought back to take the lead 58-57 on an offensive rebound and tip in by Shaquil Barber with 7:35 to go.

The Broncos pushed the lead to seven, 65-58 on two free throws by Paul Lane. ECSU then reeled off a 7-0 run capped by two free throws by Faulcon, tying the game at 65 with 1:40 left in the contest.

Joshua Dawson hit the Broncos last field goal of the game at the 1:25 mark. After Dominique Byrd converted one of two shots from the free throw line with 19 seconds left, Dawson sank one of two from the charity stripe for a two point FSU advantage.

After Johnson's clutch three put the Vikings in front and FSU burned a timeout, the win was secured when Dawson mishandled the ball and Brachon Griffin came away with the steal to end the game.

Dawson paced FSU with a team high 15 points.

ECSU (6-7, CIAA 1-2) will return to action on Thursday against Livingstone College at the RL Vaughan Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm and admission will be just $1 with a non-perishable item in support of the Food Bank of the Albemarle.
