PETERSBURG, VA- The Virginia State University Trojans rallied from a four point halftime deficit to capture a 70-59 win over Elizabeth City State University Saturday afternoon at Daniel Gymnasium.
Kevin Wiggins led all scorers with a double-double of 18 points and a game high 12 rebounds off the bench for Virginia State.
The Vikings held a 36-32 lead at the half however the Trojans opened the second stanza with an 18-4 run for 50-40 advantage with 12:08 to go in the contest. ECSU misfired on 10 of their first 12 shots in the second half and at one point went scoreless for close to six and a half minutes. The Vikings put up only 23 points in the second half and were outrebounded 41-29 for the game.
Virginia State rebounded from a mediocre opening half to fire 51% from the floor to close out the Division win over ECSU. Darrell Ward scored six straight points to pull the Vikings within four (50-46) with 10:35 to go but the Trojans responded with a 10-3 spurt to push the lead to 60-49 with 6:25 left.
Miykael Faulcon was ECSU high man with 16 points while Darrell Ward added 14 points off the bench.
