VIKINGS PREVAIL IN OVERTIME, DEFEAT MOREHOUSE COLLEGE 63-59

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Vikings surrendered a lead late in regulation but bounced back in the extra session to defeat Morehouse College 63-59 in overtime Saturday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

The win snaps a three game losing skid for ECSU.

In the overtime ECSU seemingly had the game in hand leading 59-53 with 50 seconds left. Morehouse cut the lead to a basket (59-57) after a jumper by Austin Anderson led to an ECSU turnover and layup by David Buchannon with 32 seconds to go.

ECSU would seal the win from the free throw line, with two apiece from Dominique Byrd and Brachon Griffin.

The Vikings led the entire second half until David Buchannon scored and was fouled with 2:54 to go in regulation. He completed the three-point play then Morehouse extended their lead by two after on a layup by Tyrone Brown made the score 49-46 with 2:22 to go.

Kentrell Key got an offensive board and a put-back on the Vikings' ensuing possession at the 1:48 mark. After Buchannon misfired a 3-pointer on the Maroon Tigers' next shot on offense and Shaquil Barber was fouled and sent to the line where he sank one of two, tying the game at 49.

After Buchannon missed a layup with 36 seconds left, Tyrone Brown corralled the offensive board, giving Morehouse (2-5) a shot to win the game in regulation. The Maroon Tigers burned their final timeout with 15 seconds to go and the ECSU defense held, forcing a shot clock violation with 1.4 seconds left.

The Vikings were unable to get a good look at the basket and the game went to overtime.

Morehouse led 53-52 with 2:51 left in OT until Glenn Patterson nailed a three-pointer and followed with a long jumper to give the Vikings the lead for good.

Dominique Byrd led ECSU with his third straight double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Glenn Patterson was the only other double figure scorer with 15 points.

Anderson was the high man for the visitors with 16 points.
