ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Washington Adventist University held off a furious rally by Elizabeth City State University to earn a 78-75 win over the Vikings on the final day of the 2013 Men's Basketball Invitational.
The Vikings' largest deficit was 20 points, 41-21 with 3:44 remaining in the first half.
Defensively ECSU had a hard time stopping the streaking Shock. Washington Adventist built their lead in the first half by hitting 18-34 from the field (52%) and an impressive 57% from beyond the three-point arc (eight 3-pointers made). The Shock finished the game shooting at a 50% clip overall.
Eric Lindsey scored a game high 23 points as the Shock improves to 7-3 on the year.
The Vikings slowly clawed their way back into the game, twice cutting the WAU lead to five points in the second half. The Shock extended the lead back to double digits (72-62) with 1:57 remaining and kept ECSU at bay in the closing seconds, countering ever Viking score with solid free throw shooting.
Jaron Moore led ECSU with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds while Dominique Byrd also added one with 12 points and 12 boards.
