Nov. 23, 2013

Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Glenn Patterson was one of four starters to register double figures as Elizabeth City State University outlasted Mid-Atlantic Christian University 95-71 Saturday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.

Patterson led the way with a team high 23 points, including 7-11 shooting from behind the three point line. His 7 made three-pointers is the most by a Viking since William Fitzgerald hit 9 from long range during the 1998-1999 season vs. Columbia Union College (Washington Adventist University).

Shaquil Barber netted 16 points, DeCarlos Anderson scored 10 and Dominique Byrd contributed a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Darrell Ward chipped in with 10 points and 6 rebounds off the bench for ECSU.

Despite spotting the Mustangs 54% shooting from the field, the Vikings had built a 17 point lead by the 2:06 mark and ultimately outrebounded MACU 25-11 in the first half. ECSU crashed the glass, grabbing 13 offensive boards which led to a 10-0 edge in second chance points and did not surrender an offensive rebound to the Mustangs in the first twenty minutes.

By game's end the rebounding margin went 47-29 in ECSU's favor and the Vikings led 44-32 at the intermission.

The Mustangs (1-4) began the second half with an 8-2 run and with a three-ball by Michael Anderson, trailed ECSU 46-42 with 17:48 to go. The Vikings responded with a 14-3 run, capped by Patterson's fourth 3-pointer of the night, to push the lead to double digits for good.

MACU would get no closer than eleven points the rest of the way. Anderson, who hit six 3-pointers on the night, finished with a game high 24 points.

ECSU (2-2) will take on Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, FL on Tuesday, November 26th. Follow on Twitter @ECSUVikings and visit www.ecsuvikings.com for more information.
