Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- In a low scoring affair that was dictated by defense, the Elizabeth City State University Vikings edged Saint Augustine's University 63-58 Saturday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

For the Vikings the 63 points marks their lowest scoring output in a win this season.

The Falcons (8-4, CIAA 1-1) led almost the entire second half but never by more than six points. The Vikings went ahead briefly on two made free throws by Angelo Sharpless at the 4:34 mark before a dunk by Jonathan Crawley and a free throw by Chris Johnson gave SAU a 52-51 advantage with 2:29 to go.

The Vikings went ahead for good on a Glenn Patterson three-pointer which sparked an 8-0 run, giving ECSU their biggest lead of the night, of seven points, with 1:04 remaining.

The Falcons cut the lead to three with under a minute to play but ECSU responded with four free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.

Defensively both teams held their opponent to under 36% shooting on the evening, but ECSU fared better in game's final 20 minutes, going 12-25 from the floor in the second half, a clip of 48%.

At the intermission Saint Augustine's held a slim 24-23 lead.

Sharpless led all scorers with 14 points while Percy Woods was the only Falcon to register double figures with 13 points off the bench.
