LINCOLN, PA- The Elizabeth City State University Vikings closed the second half on a 14-3 run to edge Lincoln University 58-48 Wednesday night at Manuel Rivero Hall. After trailing 23-20 at the break, the Viking defense held the Lions to 25 second half points.
ECSU trailed by 9 twice in the second half, the latter on a dunk by Jalen Ford with 10:40 left in the game.
With 8:45 to go Glenn Patterson gave the Vikings offense a much needed boost with the first of three straight shots from beyond the three point arc. The last came with 6:58 to go in the game and gave the ECSU their first lead (42-41) since the opening half. The Lions (10-7, CIAA 3-5) responded to take a three point lead (45-42) after a layup by Kenny Sharpe and two Derrick Washington free throws with 4:33 left to play.
ECSU then retook the lead (for good) on four straight free throws by Angelo Sharpless and Patterson. The Lions went scoreless from the floor in the final 4:33 except a 3-pointer by Kenny Sharpe in the waning seconds. Concurrently the Vikings outscored the Lions 14-3 over that same span to remain undefeated against CIAA Northern Division opponents.
Angelo Sharpless led all scorers with a double-double posting game highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds.
