Final Stats
PETERSBURG, VA- A last second three pointer by the Vikings' Quintin Spady bounced off the back iron and the Virginia State University Trojans escaped with a 78-75 win over Elizabeth City State University Monday night at Daniel Gymnasium.
The Vikings trailed the entire game until a layup and free throw by Marquie Cooke with 6:09 left put the Vikings up a point 67-66. On the Trojans ensuing possession DeVonte Williams hit his second three-pointer of the night to put VSU back on top 69-67.
Paul Goldsmith hit two free throws with 4:50 left to tie the score for the eighth and final time of the night.
With seven seconds left Ibn Rassoull hit two free throws which proved to be the game's final points after Spady's three missed its mark as the buzzer expired.
The Trojans held a 45-38 lead at the intermission behind 64% shooting. They finished the game at a 58% clip led by Kenny Mitchell's perfect 10-10 performance from the field. Mitchell also converted 8-13 shots from the free throw line to finish with a game high 28 points.
Angelo Sharpless again led the charge for the Vikings with a team high 20 points while Paul Goldsmith and Marquie Cooke finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
