VIKINGS FALL IN OVERTIME TO BENEDICT 68-62

COLUMBIA. SC-The Elizabeth City State University Vikings saw their five game win streak come to an end in a hard fought 68-62 overtime loss to Benedict College Monday night.

Angelo Sharpless hit a jumper with 7 seconds left in regulation to send the game to the extra session knotted at 55 apiece. In overtime ECSU went cold from the field while the Tigers reeled off 7 points with four free throws and on a dunk by Tydran Beaty with 1:44 to go Benedict led 63-56.

The Vikings only managed one field goal in the final session. Monday's game was poorest shooting performance of the season for ECSU who shot less than 42% from the floor (33.3%).

Angelo Sharpless tallied his third double-double of the season with 33 points and 10 rebounds; his scoring output is the first 30 point game of his career and sets a new personal best.

During the low scoring affair there were 10 lead changes and 9 ties. The Tigers made the most of their time at the free throw line, converting more shots (19) than the Vikings' attempted ( 17). Benedict placed four in double figures led by Beaty's team best 20 points.

Dominique Byrd was the only other Viking in double figures with 12 points, 8 rebound performance.
