ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Angelo Sharpless notched a double-double with 13 points and a career high 17 rebounds as Elizabeth City State University defeated Mid-Atlantic Christian University 77-53 Monday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
Sharpless also added a career best 7 assists, two blocks and a steal as the Vikings got their first win of the season.
The Vikings shot 55% (19-34) from the field in the first half, including six three-pointers, to take a commanding 48-19 halftime lead. Deon Rice led the ECSU charge in the opening half with 11 points, while Sharpless flirted with his first career triple double with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The Mustangs were a dismal 5-27 from the field in the opening stanza and were outrebounded 29-12 by the Vikings.
By game's end ECSU won the battle of the boards 56-28; the closest the Mustangs (4-3) got in the second half was a 20 points margin, 66-46, with 7:15 remaining.
Mikel Harvey led MACU with 13 points while Rice and Quintin Spady rounded out ECSU's double figure scorers with 12 and 10, respectively.
The Vikings (1-1) will return to action when they host the ECSU Classic on November 23-24, 2012. The action will begin on Friday with Claflin and Newport News Apprentice at 6:00pm followed by the Vikings versus Bluefield College at 8:00pm.
