CHARLOTTE, NC- Elizabeth City State University picked up their second straight road win with a 65-56 victory over Johnson C. Smith University Saturday evening at Brayboy Gymnasium.
JCSU's point total of 56 is their lowest scoring output of the season.
The Vikings exploded out of the gates at the opening tip, grabbing a 10-0 lead by the 15:39 mark. The Golden Bulls regained their composure and rallied to take a 31-27 lead into the intermission.
In the second half ECSU used their defense to stump the Golden Bulls offense, most notably the nation's leading scorer Trevin Parks. Parks entered Saturday's game averaging better than 26 points per outing, yet finished the contest with a season low 14 points. He scored only five points in the second half, three of which came from the free throw line. As a team the Golden Bulls hit only 8 of 31 attempts from the floor in the second half (25%) for 25 points.
On the other hand ECSU shot 56% from the floor in the second half and held JCSU scoreless from the field in the final 6:29 of the game.
Omar Jones and Angelo Sharpless led the way for Elizabeth City State with 18 and 16 points, respectively while Paul Goldsmith chipped in with 10 points off the bench. Parks and Phillip Wood shared team high honors with 14 points apiece for JCSU who slips to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA.
