RALEIGH, NC- In a game that featured 18 lead changes, it was Saint Augustine's College that prevailed with a 78-72 overtime decision over Elizabeth City State University Thursday evening at Emery Gymnasium.
The setback extends the Vikings' losing streak to four games and represents their second overtime loss in as many games.
ECSU held onto a two point lead (68-66) lead before the Falcons' David Brown hit a running floater with 2 seconds left to send the game to an extra session.
After shooting a blazing 61% in the second half, the Vikings could not get on track offensively in overtime, shooting 0-10 from the floor. Their only scoring came from the free throw line where they went 4-6. On the other side the Falcons went to the free throw line 10 times, hitting 6 attempts and shot 2-5 from the field.
ECSU largest deficit of nine points came at the half (36-27) and they played from behind most of the second half. They took their first lead of the second stanza, 50-49, on a layup by Paul Goldsmith at the 10:33 mark. From that point on there were nine lead changes before the game went to overtime.
The Falcons overcame 22 turnovers to improve to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in the CIAA. Tyron Laughinhouse paced SAC with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Goldsmith led the Vikings with his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
