TUCKER'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS VIKINGS PAST CHOWAN 69-59

Feb. 12, 2011

Final Stats

MURFREESBORO, NC- Rondy Tucker tallied game highs of 25 points and 14 rebounds as the Elizabeth City State University Vikings defeated Chowan University 69-59 in a nationally televised contest Saturday afternoon.

In the first half Tucker's 18 point, 7 rebound performance, helped the Vikings keep pace with the upstart Hawks, who got an added boost from the play of reserved guard Mark Brown. Brown came off the Chowan bench to go 6-8, including four three pointers in route to a 19 point first half. Behind Brown's shooting, the Hawks grabbed a nine point lead with 6:38 to go before the break. ECSU did cut into the lead to trail 35-33 at the half.

Defense limited Brown to 1-6 shooting in the second half and with that went much of the Hawks' momentum. Chowan shot 9-30 from the field and scored just 24 points in the second half. Brown finished the game with a team best 23 points.

After a scoreless opening half, Paul Goldsmith led the charge for ECSU scoring all 9 of his points after the intermission.

As a team, the Vikings had one of their better days at the charity stripe going 20-25 for the game while outrebounding the Hawks (4-19, CIAA 3-12) 38-29.

ECSU (15-8, CIAA 9-6) will take on Virginia State University for WBCA Pink Zone night on Monday, February 14th at 7:30pm at the RL Vaughan Center. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
