BARTON DEFENDS HOME COURT WITH 73-65 WIN OVER ECSU

WILSON, NC-Barton College's Gerald Boston scored a game high 17 points as the Bulldogs upended the Elizabeth City State University Vikings 73-65 Saturday afternoon at the 45 Second Classic.

The Vikings shot a season low 38% for the game, netting only 8-28 shots from the floor in the first half. ECSU trailed by the same eight point margin that they lost the game by at the intermission 35-27.

The Bulldogs (6-2) parlayed the Vikings' poor shooting first half into fast break opportunities, yielding a 14-0 break point edge. Barton finished the game with 18 fast break points to 0 for ECSU.

ECSU had a better shooting second half at 50% however so did Barton who went 13-24 from the floor after the break for 54%. The Bulldogs shooting led to a 21 point lead with 8:44 left in the game, a deficit that ultimately was too much for the Vikings to overcome.

Angelo Sharpless was the Vikings' high man with 14 points while Quintin Spady chipped in with 10.
