ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Deon Rice scored a game high 17 points as the Elizabeth City State University Vikings topped Saint Augustine's College 71-57 Thursday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
With the win the Vikings improve to 7-0 in games where they hold their opponent under 60 points.
Keith McAllister gave the Falcons their only lead on the contest (8-7) in the opening half with a jumper at the 16:03 mark. The Vikings blew the game open with a 13-0 run and went on to cruise to a 40-30 halftime lead.
In the first half the Viking shot 4-9 from downtown and 51% from the field as Rice led the ECSU bench charge with 9 points while Rondy Tucker, en route to his third double-double of the season scored 10 and grabbed 7 boards. He finished the game with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Falcons (4-10, CIAA 3-3) struggled from the field in the second half, hitting only 9 of 30 attempts. For the game they were 0-13 from beyond the three-point arc. SAC did convert 18 offensive boards into 20 second chance points but would get no closer than eight points of the Viking lead.
Joel Kindred topped the Falcons with 15 points.
