Jan. 15, 2011

Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- Shelton Carter scored a game high 29 points as the Winston-Salem State University Rams trounced Elizabeth City State University 89-63 Saturday evening at the C.E. Gaines Center.

The game saw only one tie, 14-14 at the 11:11 mark of the first half. Carter shot a perfect 8-8 from the field before the break, including 5-5 from long range in route to 23 first half points and a 41-27 first half Ram advantage.

WSSU shot a blazing 65.2 % from the floor in the first half and for an encore went 66.7% from the field in the second stanza. As a result of the Rams hot shooting on Saturday the Vikings tallied a season low 18 rebounds as a team.

As the Rams (10-2, CIAA 2-1) owned the momentum, the Vikings struggled to find an offensive rhythm hitting 23-49 shots from the floor. Paul Goldsmith was the only ECSU player to crack double figures with 10 points off the bench.

WSSU connected on 11-17 shots from beyond the three-point arc, a season high for an ECSU opponent this year.

The Vikings (8-4, CIAA 2-2) will take the floor again on Monday in Raleigh, NC when they face Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
