ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Trent Bivens scored 23 points as the Elizabeth City State University Vikings topped Central State University 80-72 Saturday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.

Bivens, who lead all scorers Saturday night, poured in 15 of his points in the second half including going 8-9 from the free throw line. As a team the Vikings made the most of their time at the charity stripe, shooting 22-37 in the second half.

Both teams had to endure a whistle laden second stanza as the Vikings and Marauders where whistled for a combined 43 fouls. CSU struggled from the line converting 11-25 (44%) in the second half; they were 16-31 overall for the game.

Central State trailed 39-34 at the intermission and were down 11 (50-39) early in the second half but rallied during a nine minute ECSU scoring drought to claim a 57-56 lead with 7:21 to go. Trent Bivens put the Vikings ahead for good with two free throws followed by a 3-pointer at the 6:53 mark. Another trey-ball this time courtesy of Quintin Spady followed by a Bivens layup gave the Vikings a 69-60 lead with 3:06 to go.

The Vikings closed out the game at the free throw line as they only hit four shots from the floor in the game's final six minutes. The Marauders (2-2) would cut the lead to five twice in the closing minutes but would get no closer. Wesley Jones led CSU with 19 points while Anthony Passley chipped in with 10 points.

Spady finished with 14 points for ECSU while Rondy Tucker scored 17.
