ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Elizabeth City State University overcame a halftime deficit en route to a 96-91 win over Barton College in their season opener at the RL Vaughan Center Friday evening.

Marquie Cooke led all scorers with a game high 23 points while Rondy Tucker added a double-double of 22 points and 18 rebounds in his Viking debut.

The Vikings trailed 43-35 at the intermission as the Bulldogs shot a blistering 57 % (15-26) from the field, including 4-8 from three point range. In the second half it was ECSU's turn to catch fire as they shot 18-31 from the floor, connecting on 5 of 10 attempts from downtown.

ECSU outscored the Bulldogs (1-1) 61-41 in the second stanza and behind 16 second half points from Tucker outpaced their opponent's bench 32-14. The game saw 11 ties and 9 lead changes in the final ten minutes of play. Barton placed four players in double figures with L.J. Dunn netting a team high 21 points.

ECSU (1-0) will take on Central State University tomorrow at 8:00pm at the RL Vaughan Center.
