ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Elizabeth City State University improved to 6-0 overall with a 78-64 victory over Chowan University Tuesday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The Hawks (2-5) scored the first basket of the game, a layup by Layth Mansour at the 18:39 mark. Afterward they would not see the lead again and when a dunk by Anthony Hilliard with 12:33 remaining in the first half made the score 16-5, the Vikings built a double digit lead which stood a 21 points (43-22) at the intermission.
Down the back stretch of the second half the Hawk went on a 19-9 run which trimmed the lead to nine points (71-62). The Vikings went on to close the game with a 7-2 run for the final point spread. The Vikings were plus 14 in points in the paint (38-24) and won the fast break battle 10-2.
Layth Mansour and Mark Brown both score 13 apiece for the Hawks.
Anthony Hilliard led all scorers and rebounders with 28 points and 11 rebounds, his 42nd career double-double. He also added 5 assists and 5 steals. DeJuan Morrison scored 17 points and Trent Bivens contributed 13 points.
