ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Anthony Hilliard led all scorers with game highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds as Elizabeth City State University powered past Virginia Union University 70-59 in a nationally televised game at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
Olajuwon Johnson and Matt Nowlin added 13 and 12 points respectively as the Vikings outscored the Panthers 44-29 in the second half. After the intermission, which had the Vikings trailing 30-26, ECSU shot 51 % from the field to 37% (10-27) for the Panthers (13-4, CIAA 8-3). The Viking victory gives Virginia Union back-to back losses for the first time this season as they dropped a 61-47 decision to Johnson C. Smith on Thursday in Charlotte.
The Vikings remain undefeated at home this season with a 7-0 record at the Vaughan Center.
Brad Byerson led the Panthers with 17 points and 12 rebounds and LaKeith Blanks added 15 points.
