Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Vikings improved to 2-1 in the CIAA Eastern Division with a 91-82 win over Saint Paul's College Thursday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
The Vikings started out slow and after two made free throws by the Tigers' Antonio Hargrove, the Vikings were facing a 12 point deficit with 4:17 remaining before the intermission. ECSU then found their offense and it sparked a 21- 4 run to close out the half. Their final points before the break came via a Demond Hickman dunk as time expired and the Vikings would continue to ride that momentum into the second stanza. The Vikings would go on to shoot 52 % from the field in the second half and would dominate the paint 58-44. And as it has gone most of the season, when the Vikings out-rebound their opponents, they win. ECSU controlled the boards throughout the evening resulting in a 45-33 rebound advantage. Olajuwon Johnson provided a solid spark off the bench with a productive 17 points.
The Tigers (6-10, CIAA 2-7) placed four in double figures with Shahumaad Jones leading the way with 16 points while Jack Browne chipped in with 15 points.
Anthony Hilliard led all scorers with 24 points and 13 rebounds, posting his 11th double-double of the year. C.J. Pigford added 23 points and Jamal Rouse finished with 12 points.
ECSU (9-8, CIAA 5-5) will return to action on Saturday, January 27th as they travel to take on Virginia Union University. Game time is slated for 7:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
