FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Fayetteville State University Broncos won notched their third straight win with a 82-73 victory over Elizabeth City State University Saturday evening at Capel Arena.
Andy Gebru scored a team high 19 points while Zeke Mays added 14 points to lead the Broncos (9-7, CIAA 5-4). Phillippe' Harris added 11 points, eight of which came on consecutive 3-pointers and a jumper down the stretch of the second half to hold off a late Vikings' surge.
FSU led the entire game but with 3:21 remaining a lay-up by Anthony Hilliard chipped the Bronco lead to four (73-69). Unfortunately for the Vikings that would be the last time they would score from a place other that the free throw line in the waning minutes. On the very next possession, Gebru would answer with a jumper to push the lead back to a six-point advantage. FSU would go 7-8 from the charity stripe down the stretch to close of the game and seal the win.
FSU shot a solid 52.5% from the field to just 40.5% for the Vikings. Hilliard had a double-double of 15 and 11 while C.J. Pigford notched one of his own, posting game highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds.Off the bench Brian West and Mike Land contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
