Jan. 16, 2007

Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Saint Augustine's College Falcons handed the Elizabeth City State University Vikings their second straight loss with an 84-74 victory Tuesday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

The Falcon managed to do what no team had done to the Vikings all season; win the rebounding battle. Tuesday Saint Augustine's became the first team to out-rebound ECSU with a 47-38 advantage.

The game was a see-saw affair that saw 4 of its 5 ties in the second half alone. With 13:09 to go the score was knotted at 53 apiece before a Devin Mooring 3-pointer gave the Vikings their final lead of the evening. The Falcons would reclaim the lead on a lay-up by Antonio Fitzgerald with 11:07 remaining in the game. Down the stretch the Falcons would remain ahead of the Vikings by controlling the glass on both ends and going 11-12 from the free throw line in the final 2:25. In the second half the Falcons scored 14 points of ECSU turnovers, scored 13 second chance points and outscored the Viking bench 15-4. The Falcons shot 31 free throw converting 20 to just 8 of 12 for ECSU.

Fitzgerald led Saint Augustine's (11-4, CIAA 7-2) with 23 points, Nicholas King added 21 points and 10 rebounds while Claude Neely had 17 points off the bench.

C.J. Pigford led all scorers with 29 points and Anthony Hilliard chipped in with 17 points.
