ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The 2006 RL Vaughan Basketball Classic concluded with Claflin University defeating the Elizabeth City State University Vikings 59-55 Saturday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.

Earlier in the day, Holy Family University became the only team to go 2-0 this weekend by downing Kentucky State 56-43. En route to Classic MVP honors Philadelphia, PA native Raheem Scott had 13 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and a block to lead the Tigers (3-1) past the Thorobreds (2-1).

In the nightcap the game came down to the wire. With 2:10 remaining, a 3-pointer by Michael Parrish gave the game its fifth tie a 52 apiece. The Panthers then scored five unanswered points to hold a 57-52 advantage with 19 seconds remaining in the game. A clutch 3-pointer by senior Devin Mooring pulled the Vikings within two points however after an ensuing foul put Phillip Brown on the line, he calmly sank two free throws to ice the game and give Claflin its first win of 2006-07. For the Vikings both C.J. Pigford and Anthony Hilliard posted double-doubles of 17 and 10 and 16 and 10, respectively. Claflin's Ernest Sinkfield and Kentucky State's Larry Williams join Scott, Pigford, and Hilliard on the 2006 All-Classic Team.

The Vikings (0-3) will hit the road this Tuesday, November 28th as they travel to face Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. Game time is slated for 7:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
