ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Vikings used a late second half surge to hold off the Claflin University Panthers 77-72 at the R.L. Vaughan Center in Elizabeth City, NC.

The majority of the contest was back and forth as there were 11 ties and 13 lead changes. The Panthers had outstanding performances by guard Antonio Kelly who led all scorers with 29 points on 11 of 20 shooting. The visitors held the edge in the post (46-38) mostly due to 22 points courtesy of Maurice Williams. For the Vikings, freshman Anthony Hilliard would come through in the second half, scoring 11 of his team high 17 points in the second stanza. The Vikings would ultimately hold the edge in bench play as the Panther reserves only mustered 4 points to 22 points for the home team. Tyrone Green netted 14 points while Ben Bridges and Devin Mooring contributed 10 points apiece. Claflin falls to 5-7 on the year while the Vikings improve to 3-5 overall.
