Lady Vikings Secure a 69-65 Victory over Bluefield State

Lady Vikings Win the CIAA North Division Title

BLUEFIELD, WV--The Elizabeth City State women's basketball team (18-10, 10-7 CIAA, 8-2 North) won against the Big Blue team on their senior day with a final score of 69-65 at the Ned E. Shott gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. 

Although the Bluefield State women's basketball team (14-12, 8-9 CIAA, 4-6 North) outrebounded the Lady Vikings 40-32, the Vikings had a higher shooting percentage of over 45% from the field. 

Alanis Hill led the Vikings with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while NyAsia Blango scored 18 points, and had 4 rebounds and 4 assists. This was a nail-biter game that went down to the wire, with the Lady Vikings trailing by as many as 5 points in the final frame. 

However, they rallied back with some timely free throws from senior guard Alanis Hill to tie the game up at 65. A go-ahead lay-up from Hill, and two free throws from Dy'Jhanik Armfield, who finished with 13 points, sealed the victory for the Lady Vikings. 

The women conclude the regular season as the Northern Division champions and will play on Wednesday, February 28th at the CIAA tournament.
