In front of a spirited crowd of 578 at the R.L. Vaughan Center, Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) pulled off a statement 73-67 victory over nationally ranked Chowan University. The Vikings delivered a well-rounded performance, led by standout efforts from Xavier Tubbs-Matthews and Dericko Williams.
Tubbs-Matthews paced the Vikings offensively with 21 points, while Williams dominated the boards with 17 rebounds and added 15 points to complete a double-double. Williams also filled the stat sheet with 4 steals, 2 blocks, and a team-high in assists, capping a stellar all-around performance.
Michael Eads Jr. sparked ECSU from beyond the arc, hitting 4 of the team's 7 three-pointers, providing a crucial scoring boost early in the contest. Defensively, Jaquantae Harris anchored the Vikings with 3 steals, helping ECSU disrupt Chowan's offensive rhythm.
ECSU shot 40% from the field and an impressive 84% from the free-throw line, using clutch shooting and tough defense to hold off the nationally ranked Hawks.
The Vikings now turn their attention to their next matchup on Wednesday, November 20th, at 6 p.m., when they travel to Elkins, WV, to take on Davis & Elkins College.
