City of Elizabeth City Celebrates CIAA Championship Teams

 Elizabeth City, N.C. - The City of Elizabeth City celebrated the Women's Basketball and Women's Volleyball teams on Wednesday evening, at the Museum of the Albemarle.

City Council members as well as members of the community would be in attendance for this momentous occasion. Mayor, Kirk Rivers alongside City Manager, Montre Freeman, would present each student-athlete with an Elizabeth City memorial coin, thanking them for their dedication and hard work.

Chancellor Dixon, as well as Director of Athletics James DuBose, would give congratulatory remarks addressing the community and the student-athletes.

The No. 5 seeded Elizabeth City State Women's Basketball team relied on stingy defense to outlast  No. 6 seeded Shaw 55-40 for its first-ever CIAA women's basketball title at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, on February 25.The Women's basketball team would end their season with a record of 20-11.

The 2022 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Volleyball Championship Game, would feature the No. 2 seeded Elizabeth City State University besting the top-ranked Shaw University, 3-1 (25-22, 26-24, 17-25), to seize the conference crown on November 12, at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia.The Volleyball Vikings would finish the season 26-9 and (16-1 CIAA).
