CLEVELAND, OHIO— Elizabeth City State Athletics is pleased to announce that
LaTaya Hilliard-Gray, Deputy Athletic Director/SWA/Deputy Title IX Coordinator of Elizabeth City State University, has been selected to receive a prestigious NACDA U Grant from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). The grant supports participation in the 2026 Senior Administrators Mentoring Institute, a national professional development program designed to prepare athletic administrators for senior leadership roles.
"We are incredibly proud of Deputy AD Hilliard-Gray for being selected as a NACDA U Grant recipient," said Elizabeth City State University Athletics Director James DuBose. "This recognition truly highlights the impactful leader that she is. The opportunities provided by the Senior Administrators Mentoring Institute are invaluable and exemplify our commitment to fostering growth and development within our athletic department."
The NACDA Senior Administrators Mentoring Institute is a two-part program that includes programming at the 2026 NACDA & Affiliates Convention in Las Vegas in June, followed by an in-person session in St. Louis in September. The institute provides mentorship, leadership training, and networking opportunities for administrators across collegiate athletics.
"Any opportunity to learn within the profession that has shaped me both personally and professionally is exciting," said Hilliard-Gray. "I am honored and grateful that representatives of NACDA have provided financial assistance to support my ongoing career growth."
As a grant recipient, Hilliard-Gray will receive $1,000 to help offset travel and registration expenses associated with the institute. The NACDA U Grant is awarded to administrators who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to advancing collegiate athletics.
"Professional development is essential to collegiate athletics because the industry is continuously evolving," added Hilliard-Gray. "I consider myself a lifelong learner, and in today's ever-changing landscape—shaped by policy shifts, governance changes, and student-athlete needs—it is imperative that athletics administrators remain engaged, committed, and adaptable. Ongoing education allows professionals to stay informed, embrace innovative ideas and methodologies, and make informed decisions that strengthen programs while supporting the holistic development of student-athletes."
Participation in the NACDA Senior Administrators Mentoring Institute underscores ECSU's commitment to leadership development and excellence in collegiate athletics.
