ECSU Athletics Recognizes Student-Athletes at 2026 Viking Athletic Awards

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University Athletic Department hosted the 2026 Viking Athletic Awards earlier this week, recognizing the amazing achievements of ECSU student-athletes in 2025-26.

The evening included the awards ceremony, with Karina Scott of Women's Basketball serving as the MC. Following the awards ceremony, food and drink was accompanied by a slate of yard games such as cornhole and giant Jenga.

The ceremony tipped off with a greeting from Deputy Athletic Director Lataya Hilliard-Gray, followed by coaches awards recognizing individuals in their sport. The Athletics Department awards saw individuals nominated by staff and student-athletes, followed by a vote.  Listed below are the winners.

Jasmine Jackson – Women's Basketball
 
Athletic Director's Cup – Team with Highest GPA
Men's Golf
 
Female Student-Athlete of the Year
Marley Renner – Women's Tennis
 
Male Student-Athlete of the Year
Jaevon Branch – Football
 
ECSU Staff Spirit Award
Ebonie Thomas – Head Coach Women's Bowling
 
Coach of the Year
Roosevelt Cooper – Head Coach Women's Tennis

The ceremony concluded with remarks from Chancellor Keith Hargrove and Director of Athletics James DuBose, who both commended the dedication, resilience, and excellence displayed by Viking student-athletes throughout the year. Their messages underscored the importance of success both in competition and in the classroom, while celebrating the culture of growth and achievement within ECSU Athletics.
