Elizabeth City State University Inducts New Members into Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Elizabeth City State University recognized the academic and athletic excellence of its student-athletes during the fourth annual induction ceremony of the Chi Alpha Sigma – National College Athlete Honor Society, held Tuesday evening at the G.R. Little Theater.

Founded in 1996 by former DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis, Chi Alpha Sigma is the first and only nonprofit organization established to honor four-year college student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in competition. The organization continues to connect outstanding student-athletes through a lifelong network that celebrates their dedication to academic and athletic success.

The 2026 induction class at ECSU featured a diverse group of student-athletes representing multiple programs across the department, each demonstrating a strong commitment to scholarship, leadership, and service:

  • Jade Pugh (Cheer) (Tennis)
  • Jasmine Jackson (Women's Basketball)
  • Toriono Combs (Football)
  • Trinity Smith (Women's Basketball)
  • Edrith Gatling, Jr. (Football)
  • Kailyn Young (Women's Basketball)
  • Jasmine Burks (Bowling)
  • M. Renner  (Tennis)
  • Darius Satterfield (Football)
  • Janiah Beach (Cheer)

The ceremony marked the fourth class of Chi Alpha Sigma inductees at ECSU and continued the university's tradition of celebrating student-athletes who exemplify excellence in all areas of collegiate life. Family members, faculty, staff, and supporters were in attendance to honor the inductees and recognize their accomplishments both on campus and within their respective sports.
