Volleyball Releases 2022 Regular Season Schedule

Elizabeth City, NC – Elizabeth City State University Head Coach and 2021 CIAA Coach of the Year, David Brooks, has announced his program's upcoming 2022 schedule that includes 16 CIAA Conference games and appearances in the Davis & Elkins Tournament and Virginia State Trojan Invitational. 

"Our goal was to put together a really competitive non-conference schedule to prepare us for CIAA play", said Brooks.  "The schedule is highlighted by our two opening weekend tournaments against some of the top teams in our region and 10 home games inside the Vaughan Center, where we only lost 1 game last season".

The Vikings will have four tune-up scrimmages, prior to the start of the regular season, as they face Surry Community CollegeSpartanburg Methodist and Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC on Saturday, Aug. 20, followed by a home scrimmage against Virginia Wesleyan University on Tuesday, August 23.

ECSU will kick-off the regular season at the Davis & Elkins Tournament in West Virginia, where they will compete against Lock Haven University and Glenville State College on Friday, August 26 and Seton Hill University and Davis & Elkins College on Saturday, August 27.  A week later, the Vikings will travel to Petersburg, VA to participate in the VSU Trojan Invitational.  On Thursday, September 1, they will face Virginia State University and Chowan University and on Friday, September 2, they will wrap up the invitational with Shippensburg University and West Virginia State University

On September 7, ECSU will finish their opening season road trip in Laurinburg, NC as they take on Columbia International University and Saint Andrews University in a Tri-Match, which will be held on Saint Andrews' Campus. 
The Vikings will play their first regular season home game when they welcome in Chowan University to the R.L. Vaughan Center on Tuesday, September 13, followed by another home match against Virginia Union University on Thursday, September 15 and Virginia University of Lynchburg, Saturday, September 17.  After the three straight home matches, ECSU will hit the road for a CIAA match-up against Bowie State University on Monday, September 19 in Bowie, MD, before returning home for a Tuesday September 20 match against Catawba College

The CIAA Round-Up 1, which will include three matches, will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25 at a place, time and opponent to be named later, followed by a trip to Virginia Beach, VA to compete against Regent University, Tuesday, September 27.  The Vikings return home for match-ups with University of Mount Olive (Wednesday, September 28), Lincoln University (Thursday, September 29) and Virginia State University (Monday, October 3) before competing in the CIAA Round-Up 2 (three matches). On Tuesday, October 11, ECSU is in Murfreesboro, NC to take on Chowan University before finishing out their home schedule Thursday, October 12 against Bowie State University, Monday, October 17 against Shaw University and Tuesday. October 18 against Regent University

The Vikings will begin a four-day road trip to conclude their regular season as they first travel to Pennsylvania to face Lincoln University on Thursday, October 20.  That is followed by a trip to Petersburg, VA, Monday, October 24, for a match with Virginia State University and three days later, ECSU will find themselves in Raleigh, NC to face Shaw University on Thursday, October 27.  The final match of the road trip, and regular season, will take place in Richmond, VA, Monday, October 31, against Virginia Union University.

The CIAA Tournament Is scheduled to begin Tuesday, November 8.

The Vikings completed 2021 with a record of 27-6 overall, 14-3 in the CIAA.  Coach Brooks and his program produced 17 CIAA Players of the Week last season, along with the CIAA Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year and four All-CIAA selections.
